About

Where I’ve Been

I still have a continent I need to become familiar with, but I have traversed a great many parts of this world. I’m still trying to come to grips with the good, bad and ugly of my experiences and this blog is my way of working through my thoughts. Maybe you too will find my reflections helpful as you plan a trip or think back on your own travels.

I’ve backpacked most of the world solo and have lived and worked overseas in the foreign policy and international development field. Work included war zones and even countries with amazing beaches near the equator. Still, my greatest thrills and chills are from wandering; bureaucracies and being desk bound are treacherous circumstances.

I am female and mostly American or as the Peruvians reminded me, “norteamericana.” It was a stark reminder that those from the US do not have a monopoly on being American. I state these factors only because my perspective and my experiences abroad cannot be separated from my life experiences and “packaging,” and how others interact with me based on these factors.
